Octant from CHARLES W. MORGAN. Ebony frame, unreinforced bronze limb, inlaid ivory scale (warped) graduated -2 deg. to +104 deg. by 1 deg. subdivided to 20 deg., ivory vernier, tangent screw, adjustable index mirror w/3 fixed shades horizon glass w/thumb screw & lever adjustment. Sight vane w/double peep w/pivoted cover. Ivory name plate and ivory plate on back of frame is missing. Stamped on ivory scale: "SBR" (between 50°-55°); made by Spencer, Browning & Rust, London, dated ca 1840.
