Scale model of the U.S.S. HORNET, fully rigged and planked, by Robert I. Innis of Boston, circa 1932-33. Scale 1/6" to foot; length of hull (front of billet head to end of taffrail) 23"; breadth 5 5/8; depth (amidships)4"; overall length (tip of Jibboom to end of boom) 35"; extreme height to tip of mainmast 24 1/2". Planked black walnut; decks light mahogany; rails lancewood. The HORNET was originally designed as a brig by Josiah Fox, an English naval constructor for the American war office. Launched as a brig in 1805 at Baltimore.
