Albumen print; photographed by E.Z. Webster of Norwich, CT., November 24, 1871; port view of wreck of the burned sidewheel steamer CITY OF NEW LONDON. Mounted. Handwritten on mat in ink lower left "Webster. Photo" and lower right "Norwich Conn". Said to have been photographed by Capt. Crocker who rowed across the river the following morning from his house on the river. Fire occurred Nov. 23, 1871, 17 people died, on way from Norwich, fog bound off Montville, believed that cook laid red hot poker on woodwork.
