Smith, advertised as photographic colorist in Mystic Pioneer, late 1865 and 1866 per WNP; portrait of Captain Silas Beebe; he is seated facing slightly to his right; he wears a dark suit, vest, white cravat and holds spectacles in his right hand; an umbrella in his left. Captain Beebe was involved in fishing and coastal freighting out of Mystic, CT. during first third of 19th century; is known to have commanded schooner RANGER in the 1830's; also commanded brig TAMPICO.
