Compass mounted in large sperm whale tooth; brass compass marked "MADE/ IN/ FRANCE"; large crack down center of tooth; masonic symbol, the "all seeing eye", engraved at top of tooth; vines engraved around compass; marked at bottom "CpT. T. Bine"; tooth mounted on ivory pedestal on wooden base; from collection of material related to Ernest Gates and the Jibboom Club, probably late 19th-early 20th century.
