SCRIMSHAW & ALLIED ARTS - TEETH
marad; scrimshaw
Sizer, William III
9.50 x 3.00 x 0

Oversize scrimshaw tooth by William Sizer (fl. 1834-40), rare in being a monochrome work by his hand. On one side, the figures of a loving couple - a young woman with spotted stole over her gown, a basket on her right arm, and a dog at her feet, while behind her an officer, his left hand clasping her left hand, and his cap at their feet. On the reverse side, an elaborate female figure of lady Liberty with flags, Liberty Cap, eagle, and ship portrait. Both women have versions of Sizer's characteristic and definitive eyes, hairdo, headgear and gowns.
