Event is a challenge cup for friendly competition between sailing yachts representative of yacht clubs of the two nations bordering on the Great Lakes. Defenders in 1978 were from the Bayview Yacht Club and they were: AGAPE, owend by Terry Kohler, BLACK MAGIC, owned by John Rummel, and SASSY'S LEE, owned by Dutch Schmidt. The Challengers were 2 Canadian clubs, the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) and the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club (RHYC). The challengers were: EVERGREEN, owned by Tim Stearn and IMPETUS, owned by Rudy Kohler, and MIA VI, owned by Paul Phelan. Winner was the Canadian boat EVERGREEN.
