Staffordshire pottery figural group, unmarked, with enamel glaze, on rectangular base with canted corners and handwritten title cartouche reading "Departure." Standing sailor wears black hat, red striped shirt and red tie under a blue jacket with gray trousers, white stockings and black shoes; a white, tied bundle and walking stick lie by his feet; To his left, a female figure with sad expression, seated on brick wall backed by small, leafless tree, dressed in hat tied under chin, a full length yellow outergarment over a gray skirt, white apron, white stockings and tan shoes. companion piece to 1960.324 ("Return").
