Held at Detroit, Michigan and sponsored by the Detroit Yacht Club. Entrants: MISS DETROIT III, driven by Gar Wood and his mechanic Jay Smith (winner of race); MISS DETROIT II, driven by George Wood and mechanic Bernard Smith (broke down during all 3 heats); MISS MINNEAPOLIS, driven by Winfield and mechanic Louis Wood; WHIPP-O-WILL, JR., driven by A. L. Judson, mechanic unknown. The three heats were run on 3 consecutive days. Wood won the 1st and 2nd heats, but Wood and Jay Smith were burned during the 2nd heat when flames from the Curtiss engine exhaust shot out at them.
