Lantern slide prepared by the American Museum of Natural History, NY, from an original photograph (1963.1767.18) by Capt. George Comer. Used by Comer to illustrate lectures about his Arctic and seafaring experiences. Depicts an Aivilik Inuit woman known as Shoofly [Nivisanaaq] using a sewing machine. Photo taken in deck house onboard whaling schooner, probably A.T. GIFFORD, ca. 1907-1912. Same image as 1983.25.55.
