Provincial carved walnut ladderback arm chair with rush seat. French, late 18th century. Alterations to all 4 legs and feet. Damage to one arm. Chair is one of assembled set of 9 used by Harold S. Vanderbilt aboard his yacht VARA during his 3 successful defenses of America's Cup in 1930, 1933 and 1936.
