Provincial carved walnut ladderback armchair with rush seat. French, late 18th century. Alterations to all 4 legs and feet. Wood slightly bleached in places. Initials "F.L." carved in left stile. Chair is one of assembled set of 9 used by Harold S. Vanderbilt aboard his yacht VARA, during his 3 successful defenses of America's Cup in 1930, 1933 and 1936.
