Mess table from original schooner yacht AMERICA, brass gimballed lamp, water container, dropleaves, brass ornamentation, glass holder shelf below and drawer, stamped on lamp screw "THE SOLAR/ E. M & CO", stamped on water spout "PECK BROS. & CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN." Of AMERICA's interior we know almost nothing. Two interior views painted by a Swedish artist in 1851, and this mess table are all we have. The table may even date to her post-Civil War days. It is gimbaled and has a small fresh water tank, both useful features on a cruising yacht.
