Pair of large chambered nautilus shells (Nautilus pompilius,) which have been ground down and/or relief carved in stylized floral pattern to expose the mother of pearl. Lower shell has had its bottom cut off to form a stable base, and part of its top has been removed and hollowed. Second shell sits affixed in this depression. Relief carving only on top shell, which has been damaged. Possibly from China or Philippines. Compare to 1984.17.30 and 1942.51-52.
