Gelatin print; mounted; Captain James Waterman Buddington (1839-1928) and crew of whaling schooner MARGARETT, September 1908; photographed amidships looking forward. Buddington seated in foreground.

Written information by donor on back: "Whaler ship Margaret, last Whaling to leave New London harbor Sept. 24 - 1908 / Seated in foreground (with cross on arm) is Capt. James Waterman Buddington, Master. At his right wearing jacket is Dr. George R. Harris of Norwich, the managing owner. To Dr. Harris' right is James E. Dennison of Groton, 2nd mate, John B. Bailey, sailmaker, is at Capt. Buddington's left. / Behind Dr. Harris left shoulder the second man is William Henry Beetham, chef (my father). The man behind Capt. Buddington's left shoulder is Joseph Beetham (1st mate/my uncle.)"

Mount and photo have been torn in 2 pieces; horizontal tear repaired with transparent tape. MARGARETT, schooner, blt. 1889 at Essex Mass. 107 tons, 92.2 x 22.7 x 8.8. Abandoned 1926 at Brava, C.V.I.; last whaler out of New London, 1908; commanded by James W. Buddington. Duplicate of 1939.1305.2.
