Chromolithograph certificate. States that James F. Smith was initiated as member of Harbor #8 (New London, CT) of the American Brotherhood of Steamboat Pilots on 2/25/1888. At top: "The American Brotherhood/ of/ Steam-Boat Pilots". Six signatures and 2 stamped American Brotherhood etc... seals at bottom - orange seal at left, blue at right. Steamboat officers in various poses at top right and left and bottom right and left. Steam vessels, lightship and lighthouse illustrations at top and sides. "All seeing eye" at top. At bottom: "Beatty & Co. Lith. 193 & 194 West St. NY.".
