Harmsworth International Challenge Trophy (1932)

Location 1932: on the Detroit River race course on Lake St. Claire, MI., September 3 and 5, 1932. Sponsored by the Detroit Yacht Club. Entrants for the 1932 race were: MISS AMERICA X, Gar Wood (defender and winner) and MISS ENGLAND III, Hubert SCott-Paine (challenger). Over the winter of 1931-1932, new rules were set for the running of the Harmsworth and a new course chosen which was felt to be less dangerous. Changes in the rules must be agreed upon by 3 groups. They are: 1. )the doners of the trophy which is the Harmsworth Estate or its representative, 2. )the Royal Motor Yacht Club of London which is the custodian of the trophy and 3. ) the national governing body holding the trophy at that time which in 1931-1932 was the Yachtsmen's Association of America.
