5 x 7 glass plate negative taken by Rosenfeld and Sons on December 19, 1918. Port view of the subchaser SC 414 underway. The SC-1 class subchaser had a displacement of 85 tons and a complement of two officers and 24 enlisted men. The armament consisted of two 3"/23-caliber guns and two machine guns. This vessel is number 414 of 440 S-1 class vessels built for WWI. One hundred were sold to France and another 121 craft manned by American crews crossed the Atlantic under their own power, refueling at sea from tankers accompanying or being escorted. They were built at College Point Boat Corp and designed by Albert Loring Swasey. Stamped on original negative sleeve: "DEC 19 1918". Handwritten: "#41069 / 45171F / S.C. 414 underway / College Point Boat Corp / Box 353".
