7x5 Kodak safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on September 11, 1929. Image of 185' Gardner & Cox designed, Townsend & Downey built three masted auxiliary schooner ATLANTIC (built 1903 in Shooters Island, N.Y.) undersail in Long Island Sound. Visible in image: port bow view of ATLANTIC on starboard close reach under fore, main and mizzen sails and topsails, staysail, jib, outer jib, and flying jib raised, New York Yacht Club burgee-blue with red cross and white star in middle- on foremast, Gerard Lambert's private signal- green and yellow horizontal stripes on swallowtail- on main mast, and pennant on mizzenmast, American Yacht Ensign on mainsail, crew up foreward. ATLANTIC set a record sailing from New York to England in twelve days and fourteen hours in 1905, not to be beaten until 1980. CREDIT LINE: Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection.
