5 x 7 glass plate negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on July 29, 1920. Image of the Inglis Uppercu designed, Aeromarine Plane and Motor Company built Curtiss F5L seaplane HIGHBALL EXPRESS (built circa 1920 in Keyport, N.J.) at International Cup Races. Visible in image: bow view of seaplane sitting in the water with the mixed group of men and women turned toward the photographer in an informal pose, crewman holds line while he stands on ladder attached to bow of seaplane. Aeromarine was founded by the yachtsman Ingalls Uppercu, and ran between New York and Key West in the winters of the early 1920s. It was known as the Highball Express because it also brought wealthy passengers to Cuba during prohibition. For more information see: A CENTURY UNDER SAIL, text by Stanley Z. Rosenfeld, page 43. Handwritten on original negative sleeve: "4263AF [sic] / July 29 1920 / International Cup Races / Group on / Aeromarine / Box 548". CREDIT LINE: Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection.
