Spectators are lined up along the waterfront in the background to watch the races. MISS AMERICA VIII was a 26' unlimited hydroplane, racing number #U-16, built in 1929 was probably the design of Gar Wood's head designer Napoleon Lisee and built by Gar Wood, Inc. of Algonac, Michigan. Typed negative sleeve info.: "38380-F". Stamped: "MIAMI 1930". Handwritten: "Miss America VIII / Box 2742".
