Image of S Class sloops racing showing a port bow view on a mild starboard tack. The boats are from left to right: #S51, NEPENTHE, #S62, WILMARED, #S1, VANESSA, #S50, VIXEN II and #S10, KOSHARE. S boats, also known as the Herreshoff S, were a one design built originally for the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club starting in 1919. Other individual boats were bought by members of different yacht clubs. The S Class was designed by Nat Herreshoff and the first 19 sloops were contracted for in 1919 and built over the winter at Herreshoff’s of Bristol, Rhode Island with a total of 95 boats built. Dimensions for these boats early one were 27'6" x 0 x 7'6" x 0 with a later change in the dimensions to 27'9" x 0 x 7'2" x 0. Stamped neg. sleeve info.: "134082F".
