8x10 print made by Rosenfeld and Sons in 1924. View of RAINBOW IV, #G71, closeup of the bow area, port side, on a cradle inside of a shed. RAINBOW IV, a 27'8" hydroplane designed by George Crouch and built by Ditchburn Boats, Limited of Canada in 1924. Won the Gold Cup race of 1924 but was disqualified on a protest due to the design. H.B. Greening was her driver. Unusual because she was designed as a double-ender with 12 steps and a surface propeller. Also is diagonally lapped from keel to the chine with 13 steps and this was not allowed by the American Power Boat Association. Design of vessel was basically sound but the men running her could never get everything working together at the same time. Power was a 621 Packard engine. The surrounding negatives were photographed at the Detroit Races August, 1924, Detroit, Michigan. CREDIT LINE: Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection.
