4X5 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons off Bayonne, New Jersey May 16, 1942. Image shows a speech given by an Elco official during the launching ceremony of this first example of the new class of Elco eighty-foot PT boats. These boats were built on a new and improved Elco design. They were 3 feet longer than the previous series of boats, allowing for different types of armament that better met the needs of the PT boat mission in the Philippines and South Pacific theater of war. Stamped neg. sleeve: "103939F 5/16/42 / Launching of PT-103 at Elco / [Box] 4728". CREDIT LINE: Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection. DUP 1
