Image description: SHAMROCK IV, on the left with a dark hull, racing against RESOLUTE, to the right, with the lightship RELIEF in the background. SHAMROCK IV was a 110' British cutter built by Camper and Nicholson of Gosport, England from designs by Charles E. Nicholson in 1914. RESOLUTE was a 106'3"cutter, designed by Nathanael G. Herreshoff and built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, Rhode Island in 1914 for the New York Yacht Club. Both the British challenger and the American defender were put in storage due to the outbreak of World War I. Typed neg. sleeve info.: "11291 / [Box] 889-10".
