8x10 nitrate negative photographed possibly by an unidentified photographer most likely in Oklahoma in December of 1919. Image is an overall view of a working oil field with snow in many areas. In the foreground is a capped oil rig also known as an oil derrick. To the right is the long equipment storage shed and to the right of that a work shed. To the right of the work shed is a very huge barrel-shaped tank made of wood and in front of the derrick is a saline pool with a pipe spraying saline to the right into the pool. There are two rigs in the background and seven more in the distance. Image is part of a series of photographs taken for or about Empire Refineries, Inc. owner of oil fields, refineries and railroad cars for oil transportation. Empire Refineries, Inc. also had places in Independence, Kansas and Ponca, Okmulgee, Oklahoma City and Cushing, Oklahoma and was a subsidiary of Cities Service Company.
