6x8 glass negative photographed by Morris Rosenfeld during the time of the Block Island Race in 1911 which started at Bayside, New York and finished at Block Island, Rhode Island. Image of ALERA, New York 30, #1, racing CARA MIA, P Class, #P44, port beam view. ALERA, built in 1905, was a New York 30' Class sloop, sail #1, designed by Nathanael G. Herreshoff and built by Herreshoff Mfg. of Bristol, Rhode Island. Completed by January 2, 1905. The first of 18 New York 30 foot class boats built. CARA MIA, ex-NAULAHKA, was a 50'3" P Class built sloop, sail #P44, built in 1909 and her designer was Nat Herreshoff and she was also built by the Herreshoff Mfg. Co. of Bristol, Rhode Island. She was at the Block Island Yacht Race of 1911 but is not listed as a participant on June, 1911. Information written on the original negative sleeve: "Block Is. Yacht Race / NY 1 / P 44 / Box 6" and stamped: "PLATE NO." and written: "71". CREDIT LINE: Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection.
