5 x 7 glass plate negative taken by Rosenfeld and Sons at Camp Merritt, Bergen County, NJ, September 17, 1917. Close, center view of telephone operator at a switchboard. Construction began on Camp Merritt on August 20, 1917. A temporary camp was set up in Demarest, NJ while construction continued. Handwritten on original negative sleeve: "Camp Merritt". Taken as a part of the New York Telephone Company series.
