5 x 7 Kodak safety negative taken by Rosenfeld and Sons on September 13, 1930. Port beam view of the J Class cutter SHAMROCK V under sail off Newport, RI. Vessel seen slightly off-center to the right of the image, on a starboard tack. The deck is partially visible. SHAMROCK V was a British challenger for the 1930 America's Cup. She was designed by Charles W. Nicholson, and built by Camper & Nicholson in 1930. Handwritten on original negative sleeve: "9-13-30 / Shamrock V / R". NOTE: During the 1930 America's Cup (15th), the great boats of the J-Class series debut with masts as tall as 165 ft. and over 80 ft. in length. Shamrock V (England) was beat by Enterprise (US).
