5 x 7 glass plate negative taken by Rosenfeld and Sons circa 1912. View of an unidentified automobile, possibly Locomobile Type, (#14), racing at what is probably the Vanderbilt Cup on Long Island. Research into this race notes that the Vanderbuilt Cup races may have ended in 1910, but the box location of this negative suggests the date is closer to 1915. The car style led the cataloger to lean more toward the 1910 date, but research was inconclusive. The course appears to be that on Long Island, mainly the position of the telephone poles, the pole size and style, and the crowd positioned on the track. The automobile type also seems to resemble more closely what was being raced in closer to 1910. No notations on the original negative sleeve. Additional historical information welcomed via e-mail.
