5 x 7 Kodak safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons off of New London, Connecticut at the time of the New London Race June 18, 1931. Port quarter view of the Herreshoff designed and built commuter yacht, TARA (ex: WASTEENA and VASANTA). River edge seen in background includes train tracks and unidentified private homes. TARA was a well-known Herreshoff commuter, built in 1920 for the yachtsman Henry L. Maxwell, of New York. At the time of this photograph, she was owned by E. Townsend Irving, of New York. Notable features include a comfortable raised deck, and twin Speedway engines. Stamped on original negative sleeve: "46175F / NEW LONDON-1931". Handwritten on negative sleeve: "Tara / Box 3199".
