Framed oil on canvas painting by Arthur Wellington Fowles (1815-1883). Titled “The Yacht America Winning The Hundred Guinea Cup”. Port View of schooner yacht AMERICA on starboard tack off coast, four other sailing vessels including a steam yacht in midground, more in background. Barrel in midground floating in the water in the bottom left corner. Bottom right signed “A. Fowles / Ryde / 1852”. Plaque on frame reads, “Presented to / Mr. Rudolph J. Schaefer. / By the flag officers and members of the / Royal Yacht Squadron to commemorate / the visit of the schooner yacht “AMERICA” to Cowes. / July – 1968”. Formerly L.1975.188.2.
