Image is of VALKYRIE III and DEFENDER crossing the line, undersail, port beam view, for the 1st America's Cup Race held September 7th, 1895. To the right of the 2 vessels, is a race committee yacht. The copy negative shows all of the material from the print, including the linen backing where at the bottom is written several notes. Handwritten: "284 / Valkyrie III / Defender / Crossing line first cup race." Stamped: "SEP -7 1895".
