4x5 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on June 12, 1939. Image taken at the Knickerbocker Inn of the Ruppert Beer Outlet Bar during the time of the 1939-1940 World's Fair in Flushing, New York. Image of an Asian bartender using a foam scraper to remove the head of foam from a glass of beer. Foam scrapers were a popular and common promotional item made by the brewery and given to bars and saloons that sold its product. These were made from Bakelite and eventually plastic by the late 1950's. On the counter on either side of the bartender are promotional foam scraper holders which were very popular and remain collectable to this day. Behind the bartender are bottles of liquor and a cello.
