Carrying case for portable Global Positioning System instrument, Magellan GPS NAV 1000 Plus (2005.17.6); blue synthetic "canvas" case with zipper and shoulder strap (1" x 44") with plastic clasps; label sewn on one side with red and white logo and "MAGELLAN" embroidered in black. Used by William Pinkney during his 1990-1992 solo sailing voyage around the world aboard his Valiant 47 sloop COMMITMENT, the first African American solo circumnavigation.
