8x10 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on July 5, 1940. Image of George Ehret Ruppert (1875-1948), president of Jacob Ruppert Brewery since January of 1939, marking the last wooden beer barrel at Jacob Ruppert Brewery, New York City. To the right in the image are the new beer barrels made of a lighter metal. The start of World War II ended the use of metal barrels for the duration of the war due to rationing. The use of the lighter beer barrels made a slow comeback and by 1965 the metal barrels or kegs were in full use in the brewing world. The Jacob Ruppert Brewery was located at Old Yorkville, Manhattan, New York from 1867 to 1965.
