5x4 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons May 11, 1937 of the J Class sloop RANGER just before being launched at the Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. Image of vessel inside a workshed on the sliding ways, stern view, taken from the ground looking up. American ensign flying from the stern and the mast lying from bow to stern on deck where it will stay until being stepped when it reaches Newport, Rhode Island. RANGER was a 135'2" sloop built as a US America's Cup defender in 1937 by the Bath Iron Works of Bath, Maine and designed by Starling Burgess with Olin Stephens.
