Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following description of this slide is part of a transcription of a videotaped lecture from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 02:53:57]:
“See this chunk (light pointer) [lava on a volcano in the Galapagos]? Came right out of there. Goes right in there, just like a jigsaw puzzle. Just like broken crockery.”
