Photograph; black-and-white photograph of the midsection of POLLUX (builtl1939), February 1942; photograph of midsection taken shortly after the bow section broke off and was smashed against the cliffs; handwritten on back "The bow broken off the Pollux" and "RM1/c Cady"; from Henry Strauss transcript in Sound Archives: "This was right after the whole bow, forward of the set of king posts, you see here, broke off and was smashed against the cliffs. And the ocean was covered with all sorts of supplies and what not that fell out of the holds as the bow broke off ... I was on the bridge when this happened. First there was a crack across the deck and then the crack got wider when the next wave ... Waves were running about 30 feet then ... When the next wave hit and the third just picked the entire bow up and flung it over to the beach, over to the rocks."
