Photograph; color photograph of the war and workers monument, St. Lawrence, 1992; honors the men lost during the shipwreck of the TRUXTUN (built 1920) and the POLLUX (built 1939) as well as the miners who succombed to silicosis; handwritten on back "Monument to sailors + rescuers/ of Pollux/Truxtun 1994?/ dedication" and "a bit dark too eh?"; from Henry Strauss transcript in Sound Archives: "The monument. The dedication was 1994 of the monument to the POLLUX, TRUXTUN, and the miners who lost their life from silicosis." Description of monument "A St. Lawrence miner stands atop a dark, stark, ununviting cliff. Around his shoulders, extending to hands, a rope follows down the steep icy covered cliff, at the botton of which lies an oil soaked U.S. sailor, hands extended, pleading for help."
