BREESE (DM-18, built 1918), destroyer minelayer; front of envelope has cachet on left in green ink with USN shield in upper left, USN shield with crossed anchors behind on upper right, stars in lower left and lower right, profile of an unidentified navy ship in the center; printed above and below ship "HONORING/ A GREAT NAVY"; stamp on right depicts Warren G. Harding, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ HARDING/ 1-1/2 CENTS 1-1/2"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S./ JAN/ 1/ A.M./ 1935/ BREESE." and "PEARL HARBOR/ HAWAII"; typed address on front "BERTRAM CHRISTOFFEL/ 1617 NORTH TRIPP AVE./ CHICAGO, ILLINOIS"; handwritten on back "DN14", "10" and "T3". The U.S.S BREESE damaged several enemy planes and sank one midget submarine during the attack on Pearl Harbor (see correspondence file).
