GAMBLE (DM-15, built as DD-123, 1918 ), minelayer; front of envelope has cachet on left in green ink featuring drawing of the Aloha Tower in Honolulu surrounded by devils dancing with pitchforks, printed on left "'THE FLEET'S IN'/ THERE LL BE A HOT TIME IN HONOLULU TONIGHT/ JOHN RODGERS CHAPTER NO. 26/ UNIVERSAL SHIP CANCELLATION SOCIETY/ HONOLULU, HAWAII, U.S.A."; stamp on right depicts George Washington in profile, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ WASHINGTON/ 2 CENTS 2"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S./ MAY/ 30/ A.M./ 1935/ GAMBLE" and "PEARL HARBOR"; address stamped on front "C. E. FROWE/ 1019 -- 13th Ave./ Honolulu, Hawaii"; stamped on back "SUNK". The U.S.S. GAMBLE shot down one enemy plane during the attack on Pearl Harbor and patrolled for submarines (see correspondence file).
