First day cover for the U.S.S. TREVER (DMS-16, built as DD-339, 1920), minesweeper; front of envelope has no cachet; duplicate stamps on right feature portrait of Martha Washington, printed on stamps "UNITED/ STATES/ POSTAGE/ MARTHA/ WASHINGTON/ 1-1/2 CENTS 1-1/2"; stampS postmarked "U.S.S./ P.M./ 17/ JAN/ 1940/ TREVER"; address printed on front "M. A. SANDERS/ Route 1, Box 546-A/ Stockton, California"; logo stamped in red on back features unidentified navy ship with globe behind it, anchor in lower left, wheel in lower right, chain forms border, printed "MEMBER No. 725/ UNIVERSAL SHIP/ CANCELLATION SOCIETY/ M. A. SANDERS". The U.S.S. TREVER shot down two enemy planes and swept the harbor for mines during the attack on Pearl Harbor (see correspondence file).
