UTAH (AG-16, built as BB-31, 1909), mobile target ship; front of envelope has no cachet, printed on left is short history of United States Navy battleships, 1907-1938; duplicate stamps on right feature portraits of John Paul Jones on left and John Barry on right with three square-rigged vessel in the middle, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ JONES/ BARRY/ BON HOMME RICHARD LEXINGTON/ 1 ONE CENT 1"; stamps postmarked "U.S.S./ APR18/ 19 30AM/ 1938/ UTAH"; address stamped on front "V. C. Shank/ Box 55, Route 1/ Hampton, Va."; address stamped on back "C. E. FROWE/ 4062 BLACK POINT RD./ HONOLULU, HAWAII"; stamped on back "SUNK"; handwritten on back "1352". The U.S.S. UTAH was hit by torpedoes and capsized during the attack on Pearl Harbor, with 64 men killed (see correspondence file).
