Chest; Chest of drawers, 1864; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); a chest of drawers (also called a dresser), manufactured in 1864; the top of the chest has a removable slab of marble cut to fit the shape of the dresser top; there are four drawers, each one following the curved shape of the chest itself, and all are removable; the drawers increase in size as they descend down the chest, and each drawer is equipped with two circular wooden handles, as well as a lock in the center; the chest also features paneled sideboards, and tapered, spooled front corner drops near the top for decoration, with opposing graduated spooling near the bottom; key for the locks on the drawers is located with the rest of the chest.
