Mears (1829-1899) during his travels as a shipmaster to the South Pacific; original image was most likely a watercolor painting by C. Gordon Cumming (nee Constance Frederica Gordon-Cumming, travel writer and painter during the mid to late 1800s) depicting a scene of a native Tahitian feast; handwritten on back "Native Feast/ District [illegible]/ Tahiti/ Breadfruit tree in the/ Right hand corner."; printed on back "C.B.
