Mears (1829-1899) during his travels as a shipmaster to the South Pacific; watercolor originally by C. Gordon Cumming, depicting a mountain in Tahiti known as "The Diadem" due to its shape; handwritten on back "Diadem Tahiti"; printed on back "C. B. Hoare,/ Photographer,/ PAPEETE,/ TAHITI."
