View was taken from an elevated position facing the launching party on a stand watching the female sponsor christen the bow of the vessel with a bottle of champagne. There are 2 photographers standing to the right on the stairs taking photos. COLUMBIA was a 69'7" 12 meter sloop built for the America's Cup defense in 1958 by Henry B. Nevins, Inc. of City Island, NY and designed by Olin Stephens. COLUMBIA was the America's Cup defender and winner in 1958. Stamped neg. sleeve: "159412F / [Box] 5644".
