Distant image of WEATHERLY, #US17, on the left with blue and white spinnaker, and VIM, #US15, on the right with white spinnaker, racing, with both downwind port tack views. WEATHERLY, US #17, was a 69 ft. 12 meter sloop designed by Philip L. Rhodes and built by Luders Marine Construction Company in 1958 for Henry D. Mercer, Arnold D. Frese and Cornelius S. Walsh of New York, New York and during the America's Cup trials, her skipper was Arthur Knapp, Jr. VIM, US #15, was a 70' 12 meter sloop, designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Henry B. Nevins, Inc. of City Island, NY in 1939. VIM was mothballed from 1940 until 1950. Her new owner in 1951 was John Matthews who raced her in the America's Cup trials in 1958 and her skipper was Emil Mosbacher. Mount info. embossed: "SEP 1958".
