Barrel; Ivory sewing barrel; from the collection of Captain Richard C. Mears (1829-1899); most likely a sewing barrel, used to hold a spool of thread; made of ivory or bone, top most likely unscrews, and small spindle inside is to hold spool of thread in place; found in tray inside of Chinese sewing box.
